The Central New York Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (CNYSPCA) is hosting the Second Annual "Give Me Shelter" Golf Tournament on August 4th, 2008 at the Woodcrest Golf Club. Proceeds will support programs offered by the CNYSPCA, such as sheltering, adoptions, education, spay and neuter, cruelty investigation, and animal care. Registration is from 9:00 am - 9:45 am and shotgun start is at 10:00 am. The cost is $80/golfer or $320/team, and a $20 skins fee/team which covers green fees, golf cart, hole-in one contest, lunch, dinner buffet, and prizes. American Kennel Club: AKC Responsible Dog Ownership Day

New York's dog-loving community joins the AKC in celebrating the sixth annual AKC Responsible Dog Ownership Day, a free event educating pet owners about the joys and responsibilities of canine ownership. Open to all dog enthusiasts, this event will include dozens of AKC Meet the Breeds booths with informational displays about various AKC breeds. Each breed will have a booth staffed with experts and present different ages/varieties of their breed for the public to meet! We will have an activity ring with agility and obedience demonstrations, and lively entertainment. Free AKC Canine Good Citizen testing will be available on a first come, first served basis. There will be low-cost ($25, includes registration) microchipping by the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals, giveaways, and so much more! This event is free and open to the public.

Proceeds from EXPO 2008 will help fund LIPS' educational programs, our foster and adoption efforts and the Future Long Island Parrot Musuem, Shelter and Learning Center. Money raised at EXPO will also enable us to donate to avian conservation efforts, medical research and other worthy bird-related causes.
