Your voice was heard: Senate Bill 917 was signed into law by Governor Brown. Now the penalties for those convicted of animal neglect will be on par with those issued for intentional animal cruelty.

An animal suffering from neglect is deprived of the necessities for life-shelter, food, water, veterinary care. They live in misery: ultimately dying or sustaining severe injury from starvation, dehydration, exposure to the elements and treatable diseases.

SB 917 also bans the sale of animals in back alleys, parking lots, carnivals and similar public places. These animals are often sick, underage, and lacking verterinary care.

As recently as yesterday, spcaLA Humane Officers encountered and rescued animals in deplorable conditions. With your support, we can can continue to investigate animal cruelty knowing that the law is in support of abused and neglected animals.

Thank you for contacting Governor Brown's office and urging him to make California's animals safe from abuse and neglect.

We are able to accomplish so much when we work together.

Sincerely,

Madeline Bernstein
